The Tehama County Museum Foundation

Mission:

In 1980 the Tehama County Museum Foundation was created by a group of local Tehama County citizens to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts that represent the cultural heritage of Tehama County.

The museum exists for the purpose of providing education, inspiration and aesthetic enrichment for all people through exhibition and explanation.

The museum’s goal is to educate and enlighten people about the history and cultural aspects of Tehama County – and there are many!

Community outreach:

Education and outreach by the Tehama County Museum Foundation come in the form of regularly scheduled local history presentations, school tours, group tours upon request, public outreach, book sales. The museum volunteers are VERY enthusiastic about sharing Tehama County’s rich history and the important role that its population has played in the making of state of California. Talk to any museum volunteer and you will learn something new about this great area!

The cost of doing business:

Maintaining a very old building (the Masonic Lodge in which the museum is housed was built in 1859), practicing proper preservation and conservation methods of museum displays and collections, and paying the bills that come with museum maintenance (materials, security, phone, internet, heat, air conditioning, water, and landscape expenses, to name a few) are expensive! The Tehama County Museum Foundation is a non-profit organization and does not receive Federal or State funding. The museum doors are kept open to the public due to the hard work and dedication of volunteers, fundraising events, grants, and donations.
