Bridges to Housing

There are many barriers to housing for a homeless person. Even if they can afford rent month to month, having to pay security deposits, first and last month's rent, and utility fees make the cost almost insurmountable. That is all before you consider how difficult apartment hunting, applications, and interviews can be for someone unaccustomed to them. Due to these barriers, homelessness isn't something they can simply work to escape, it is something they become trapped in.

At Bridges to Housing we believe in improving health and quality of life through housing and healthcare. We pair our clients with a case manager who helps set and reach appropriate goals when it comes to housing and health. Whether their goal is to get back on their feet so that they can begin to apply for jobs once again, apply to HUD so they can afford to live in an apartment on their own, we help ease the difficult transition from homelessness to sustainable long-term housing. At Bridges to Housing, we believe compassion, housing, and health all go hand in hand.
Here are some quotes from people who took part in our Rental Assistance Program.

P- "She's my friend. We're like sisters. She checks on me and helps me remember my doctor's appointments. I don't know what I'd do without her." (talking about her volunteer case worker)

J: "I don't know what I would do without Marilyn. I've been knocked down and set back so many times that it can be really hard to stay positive. But Marilyn visits me and helps me with all the paperwork to get housing. She advocates for me. I don't know what on earth she gets out of it, but I'm very grateful. She's given me my hope back." (Marilyn is J's case worker)
