Help Bring Violent Earth to the Dome this Giving Tuesday
Introducing Violent Earth! 🌎
This powerful show immerses viewers in the breathtaking forces that shape our planet: erupting volcanoes , shifting plates, and roaring storms that reveal the dynamic nature of Earth itself. We will use this show with two grade levels of students for field trips and pair it with Violent Origins for an amazing public double feature.
What Is It?
This program explains and highlights the power that shaped planet Earth. Violent Earth is a cutting-edge, full-dome digital experience designed to immerse viewers in the intense, dynamic forces that continually shape our home planet.
Why Is It Important?
Acquiring the Violent Earth program is crucial because it significantly enhances the planetarium's capacity to deliver high-impact, curriculum-aligned Earth science education.
Superior Educational Tool: The full-dome format provides an unparalleled, immersive learning environment that helps students and families experience complex geological and meteorological concepts in a way that traditional classrooms cannot. The sense of scale and motion makes abstract science—like plate tectonics or the formation of a cyclone—tangible and memorable.
Serving Local Students: The show is specifically slated to be used for field trips for two different grade levels of students. This means the program directly supports the local school district's science curriculum, providing a critical resource that aligns with educational standards and sparks interest in STEM fields.
Expanding Public Access: By adding a new, modern, and engaging show to its lineup, the Planetarium can attract more visitors for its public viewing events, fulfilling its mission to be a vital community resource for science literacy and discovery.
How You Can Help?Additional funds beyond our goal will enable us to expand our impact and support future projects aligned with our mission.
Thank you NSGT donors
NSGT donations have supported the purchase of seven shows and an exhibit in the last five years. We have expanded our collection to better meet the needs of students and is vital to the mission of Friends of Schreder Planetarium. The Director of Science Programs, Nathan Fairchild, is maintaining the 45 year history of providing outstanding educational experiences for students. Pre and post show lessons are designed for teachers providing instruction for students who attend shows at the Planetarium. The curriculum is tied in with classroom activities that encourage thinking and problem-solving and align directly to the California Science Standards.
Friends of Schreder Planetarium
The Friends of Schreder Planetarium (FoSP) is a nonprofit group that supports the planetarium with funds and volunteers, including operating the gift shop. In 2019 the FoSP helped fund a new projector - a major improvement in content, quality, and delivery. To be a Friend of the Planetarium just roll up your sleeves and bring your own talents and enthusiasm! Most volunteers help with evening programs by checking in guests or working in the gift shop. Some are Board members and some have unique skills in technology or education. If you would like to be a part of this exciting work and join the Friends of the Planetarium email info@FriendsOfSchrederPlanetarium.com The FoSP holds quarterly meetings. Please join us for our next meeting on Wednesday, January 26, 2026, at 6:30pm at the Planetarium.
