The Marble Rim Gallery serves as a platform for local artists to display and sell their work and is an integral hub for art activities in the Scott Valley area of Siskiyou County. The gallery hosts monthly First Friday Open House receptions and shows featuring local artists and sponsors annual events which include the Scott Valley Street Fair in May and the Fort Jones Christmas Craft Fair in December.  In addition to the support of local artists and artisans to sell their creations, each fair includes food booths sponsored by local civic organizations or individual enterprises. The events have often provided local musicians with a place to perform, giving community members a place to hear local music while viewing art created by local artists.

A project of the non-profit Scott Valley Theatre Company, the gallery is organized as a co-operative and is operated by the gallery members. Supported in part through a percentage of the sales of members’ artwork, the gallery also raises funds through annual membership fees, booth fees for the annual art fairs the gallery hosts, fees for art classes, occasional raffles of artwork, and donations received from featured non-member artists, patrons, and individual community members.  All funds go to meet the costs to run the gallery, and to date, the gallery has been able to maintain its operations throughout the years.  Grant funding has helped in the past to upgrade interior displays and other essential infrastructure.

Volunteer participation is the life of Marble Rim Gallery.  Each member who displays work also works in the gallery and serves by contributing their unique skills and knowledge to manage gallery operations.  Members work together to jury items submitted for display to maintain standard and quality.  Displays rotate under the design of the members.   Members work together to provide seasonal window and store decorations.   Gallery members assist several community service organizations through sponsorship and through donations of individual work for community fund-raisers.

In addition to their artwork, members bring an array of knowledge, experience and skills to the gallery, and their personal links into the community provide a network of contacts and interests that feed into the community’s support and social investment in the gallery.

The history of the gallery exemplifies the enduring presence of the arts and their value to the communities of the Scott Valley area.  The Scott Valley Creative Arts Guild was founded by local artists and artisans in April 1991, to promote awareness, appreciation, and a passion in our community for all types of artistic endeavors by providing a gallery and other public events for local artists to exhibit and sell their artistic creations. The Marble Rim Gallery is the focus, physical presence and serving entity of the Guild. The first gallery was opened in October 1991, and has remained active throughout the years.

Your support helps to continue Marble Rim Gallery's service as a hub for the arts in the Scott Valley area of Siskiyou County.  Please come visit us and enjoy the ever-changing display of unique local art.  Enjoy the celebratory First Friday opening receptions of shows featuring local artists and their work.  Witness the excitement when new and very young artists have their first art show, and join in the encouragement to them to continue to develop their talents.  Bring your friends and family to revel in the holiday spirit of the popular Christmas Craft Fair or to celebrate spring at the May Craft Fair, both hosted by Marble Rim Gallery.
