This year, Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum is celebrating 43 years of serving our community with free admission for all.
We do not charge admission, because we want everyone to experience our fun, interesting museum. We make all of our visitors - tourists and residents alike - feel welcome and included.
We are an involved, aware, and vital part of the community. Our museum is a center for learning. We continue to expand our understanding of the area by broadening our research, addressing timely issues, and increasing our knowledge of all cultures. We host monthly presentations about important topics and install new displays yearly. This year, we hosted 3 Science Saturdays, which were very informative and fun for all.
This year, we are raising funds to replace the roof on our historic building. It is a big project, yet very important to help preserve and protect our museum and this significant part of our history. Our building was completed in 1910 and housed the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery until 1979.
Quote from our Visitor's Comment page: “We live near San Francisco Bay Area Discovery Museum. I like your museum better. My kids have aged out of the other museum and all three of my kids (11, 9, 6) have found multiple things to do here and don’t want to leave. The hands-on experiences are amazing. The last room is wonderful for young minds! Thank you for being available for kids to learn, explore and have fun. I would recommend this place to all.” 10/11/25
You can help us keep our museum going strong into the future with your donation. Your donation will be doubled! (Until $30,000 is reached, so total goal amount of $60,000 will be achieved.)
Mission: Illuminate the past, present, and future of the Mount Shasta area.
