According to state and national statistics, Shasta County is in the top 5 counties in California for cancer cases.

About 50% of the cancers are discovered at stage 1, when it is most treatable, approximately 50% are discovered at stage 4, when treatment options are fewer.

ABOUT NORTH STATE CANCER LEAGUE 

North State Cancer League is a 100% volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit.  Our purpose is to raise money for cancer related causes, services, and equipment for our local community and to distribute funds raised for local services and projects.  The generosity of our community is overwhelming.  Over the past 39 years, we have raised more than $3.4 million dollars in support of cancer patients and services.  All donations are tax deductible and again, stay local.   Since 2014, with the remarkable support of our community, we have donated to organizations that support cancer patients such as:

Mercy Foundation North: 

• North State Cancer Patient Fund
  1. Gas cards for travel
  2. Oncology CARE IN AND OUT of our area
  3. Assistance with HOUSING AND FOOD in times of dire need
  4. New medical equipment
  5. Assistance with numerous other patient needs that may arise during treatment
• Uber Health Transportation
  1. Studies show that almost 6 million people in the US miss medical care every year due to transportation issues. The research also says that even one missed appointment can lead to significantly increased rates of patients stopping visits to their regular provider.
  2. Uber Health is a HIPAA-supported technology solution that has helped hundreds of thousands of patients and caregivers get to and from care. Providers can also use Uber Health to help get crucial staff to work.

Alyssa Araiza Wings of Angels 

• The Alyssa Araiza Wings of Angels Organization is committed to aiding families who have children suffering with pediatric cancer or life-threatening illness
   • prepaid grocery and gas cards
   • postage stamps
   • payment for past due utility/phone bills
   • emergency vehicle repairs
   • memorial service donations

Camp Okizu

• Okizu (oak-eye-zoo) comes from the Sioux language and means unity, to come together, to heal from a hurt, to make whole.
• The mission of Okizu is to help all members of families affected by childhood cancer to heal through peer support, respite, mentoring, and recreational programs. 

In 2024, with the generous help of our local community we raised over $100,000 at our annual event. Please help us continue to provide assistance to cancer patients in our community. Thank you!
