Ready for Life

Ready for Life, a division of Better Choices, Inc., is a local, faith-based nonprofit with 25 years of experience supporting children and youth in Northern California.

Founded in 2001 out of one family’s compassion for children, we’ve been dedicated to providing safe, loving foster homes across Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, and Siskiyou Counties. Our vision is to ensure every child has the opportunity for stable, lasting, life-long relationships and hope-filled expectations.

In 2019, we expanded our mission through Ready for Life Host Homes, addressing youth homelessness in Shasta County with innovative, community-based housing solutions. We provide transitional and permanent housing through three models:

• Shared-living home for young adults living with peers

• Scattered-site rental assistance to help youth secure their own housing

• Host homes where community members open their homes — and hearts — to youth in need

Each young person receives case management, mentorship, and life-skills support to help them achieve stability and independence.

We also operate a Resource Center — a safe, welcoming space where youth can access food, clothing, laundry, computers, and community. It’s more than a place to rest — it’s a place to rebuild hope.
