Who We Are:

Shasta Scout is a non-profit, independent civic news media organization dedicated to telling the diverse and investigative stories of Shasta County for our region and the nation. We scout out the truth for you.

North State Giving Tuesday falls during our annual NewsMatch campaign meaning all donations are doubled — and new monthly members are matched 12x! We aim to raise $5,000 during North State Giving Tuesday toward our end-of-year campaign goal of $18,000. Support us and see your donation extend even further.

• We’re Independent: As a nonprofit, we’re funded by local readers, local businesses, and major donors. We maintain a firewall between editorial decisions and funders to ensure that powerful sources won’t impact what we report or how we report it. 

• We’re Trustworthy: We publish factual news based on research, documents and interviews. We correct our mistakes quickly and transparently. We are careful to use powerful words in objectively accurate ways. We follow the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics.
