Mission: "Practicing & Promoting the Art of Beekeeping in Siskiyou County"

Vision: The SisQ Bee Club aims to create a vibrant community of over 100 members, uniting advanced, intermediate, and beginner beekeepers from across the county. Our definition of success encompasses the ability to winter over hives, achieve robust growth in the spring, and utilize tracking and monitoring techniques effectively to make informed decisions about hive health. We are committed to providing all the resources needed to ensure our members' hives not only survive but truly thrive.

The Art of Beekeeping, an Heirloom Story

The Heirloom: Beekeeping goes beyond mere hobby—it’s a captivating art that ignites cultural exchange and fosters a deep connection with the natural world. As stewards of this timeless craft, it is our responsibility to pass on the rich traditions and knowledge of beekeeping to future generations. By doing so, we not only preserve the vital role bees play in our ecosystem but also ensure that this sweet legacy flourishes for years to come. Let’s unite in our efforts to celebrate and champion the extraordinary world of beekeeping!

The Need: The initial costs can be prohibitive for many aspiring beekeepers. A full, mature beehive in its first year requires a minimum investment of $700 for equipment, bees, protective apparel, and setup. Often, new beekeepers try to cut costs by using very old or sometimes diseased equipment, which can lead to health risks for their bees or even death. This situation can be discouraging and may deter them from pursuing their passion.

The Solution: The SisQ Bee Club aims to establish a New Beekeeper’s Fund to provide new beekeepers with their first hive, equipped to last well into their second year before additional equipment is needed. This initiative will give both bees and beekeepers a fresh start and simplify the process of tracking hive health history. This is the first step toward success. Eligibility and the requirements of volunteering time to help build the woodenware and to participate in two other Club activities will educate the new beekeepers for success, while contributing to Club sustainability. "As a new member, Calvin Kreuter from Etna expressed, "I would have been lost if it weren't for the SisQ Bee Club. The hands-on opportunities made all the difference in my understanding of what it means to be a beekeeper."

The Help: The Board of Directors is currently seeking donations to establish the New Beekeeper’s Fund. They also welcome volunteers to assist in various community activities, including the pollinator garden at the fair, Kids' Educational Days, Ag Awareness Day, and managing the fair booth in June 2026. Your thoughtful expressions to support the SisQ Bee Club and its mission and vision would be greatly appreciated.
