Siskiyou County Arts Council

The Siskiyou County Arts Council was organized in 2016 as the designated arts council of Siskiyou and state-local partner to the California Arts Council. Our organizational priorities are to increase equity, particularly racial equity, in and through the arts; ensure the long-term vitality of the arts ecosystem by supporting self-organization strategies; and to foster individual creativity throughout life acknowledging art as a fundamental human need. We ensure constituents have equitable access to arts programming and opportunities by providing county-wide arts programming focusing on habitually underserved communities, pursuing strategic local arts initiatives that connect and highlight the arts ecosystem, coordinating emergency preparedness initiatives and mutual aid funds, and offering fiscal sponsorship for nascent arts organizations and projects.

Direct Programming/services we offer:

SCRAPS Art Cart - traveling creative upcycling station, all ages, all abilities

Art DROP - free art supply re-source boxes, decorated by 20 artists, installed as public art in most remote 10 communities 

Poetry Out Loud - national poetry recitation competition for high school students

Siskiyou X Days (open studios-ish event) - featuring each community in Siskiyou each of 10 days of event, highlighting quality and diversity of local creativity, particularly unknown or unique experiences

Emergency Preparedness – partnered with Media Council to secure 12 low power FM radio stations across 

Grant development assistance for local government/nonprofit entities and grant feedback for artists and individuals

Mutual Aid grants – low barrier unrestricted grants to artists 

Fiscal Sponsorship – 5 fiscally sponsored projects 

Rotating programs based on community needs/opportunities
