We are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
All are welcome
Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
More About Us
Our board is all volunteer. Your donations go to the people we help.
After the Boles Fire, we started to help rebuilding in Weed. We are currently starting our 8th home. A home can only start construction when the funding is in hand or a house is sponsored (by an organization or service group like Rotary) so donations are critical to our success. We take no government help. Habitat is a "Hand up", not a "handout" organization. The homeowners are required to put in 500 hours of "sweat equity" and have a 0% interest mortgage (on only the actual cost of the homevolunteers help to make the homes more affordable and monies returned to us are put back in our account to be used for another project within our communities.
Handicap ramp construction is another prime area of work for our group, as well as helping the elderly and physically challenged keep their homes in good working order. We are fortunate to have had some student involvement on some of these projects. The win-win for us, them and the person in need is truly incredible. Hopefully we will be able to start this collaboration again.
These past years have been hard on many of the residents here. Too many don't qualify for the Habitat income requirements, so we developed a new program/fund we call Neighbors in Need. These people are unable to repay for materials needed for necessary repairs to their homes, but can't continue to live there without help. When and where we can, volunteers go in and do the best possible with what we can scrounge up from our warehouse of donated items and a few purchased supplies (that we don't get refunded). To continue this, we really need help from donations of construction materials and cash.
Siskiyou County is considered "Frontier" by Habitat International. We are beyond rural...and we still help our neighbors. Volunteers are our saving grace. Time, talent, and treasure are needed. You don't need a hammer to be a part of our family, or to help others in need. With all the fires, floods, and hurricanes around us, building materials have skyrocketed. Your help is seriously needed to allow us to continue our mission. Habitat International does not fund our programs and we take no government money. Your donations are all we have to continue our projects. These past years, Covid-19 issues have slowed our progress on construction because of a lack of volunteer teams that come from colleges and other states and towns. They are slowly signing up to return. If you have some skills you would like to share, please contact us! We are also looking for someone to help manage our home-building projects.
We are looking for volunteer help in the weed area for our next building project, if you're interested please click on the link below to volunteer. We are also looking for board members please use the same link to apply to be a board member now!
