Celebrating 55 Years of Opportunities
More than fifty-five years ago, a mother named Lois Listoe and a small group of local parents had a dream — to create meaningful work and belonging for adults with disabilities in Siskiyou County.
With just $1,000 in the bank and the strength of community behind them, they incorporated the Siskiyou Opportunity Center (SOC) in 1970. Their goal was simple but powerful: to ensure every person served, could learn skills, earn a wage, and live with dignity and purpose.
From those humble beginnings, SOC has grown into a two-county organization serving individuals across Siskiyou and Shasta Counties through programs in:
Supported Employment – meaningful jobs in the community
Community Integration Programs – skills training, personal growth, and community access
Independent Living Services – empowering individuals to live independently
Job Development and Training – connecting people to new opportunities every day
Today, SOC continues to build on Lois’s legacy — creating opportunities that inspire independence, purpose, and belonging for hundreds of individuals each year.
Your Giving Tuesday donation helps ensure this vision continues to grow for generations to come — supporting local jobs, independence, and inclusion right here in our Northern California communities.
