Our journeyman programs in construction include Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, and Plumbing. Students attend courses at the Trade School part-time while working in their trade full-time.
The Trade School at SBE is an approved electrical school by the State of California's Electrician Certification Unit. The Trade School is an accredited NCCER Training Center. As students complete each level of coursework, they receive a NCCER certificate of completion, wallet card, and official transcripts.
Student tuitions do not cover all of our costs here. We rely on donations, sponsorships, grants, and our community members to support our mission.
As a private nonprofit, we strive to provide essential training for our residents here in Far Northern California. Keeping our doors open here in Redding keeps the training more accessible and affordable for our communities. With fewer sponsorships and grants available, we are more reliant on our community to help us provide skills and training.
After 20 years in the community, first under Shasta Builders Exchange, and now independently, we have launched many successful students into our workforce. I'm pleased to see the number of our graduates who now run their own businesses and provide beneficial services to our communities. We strive to keep the doors open and continue to provide such needed workforce training.
Our students are intelligent, resourceful, creative, and enjoy building. Our former student, Steve Baczkowski, fits this description well. He trained as a welder and a mechanic before taking an interest in electrical work. He went through the Trade School's NCCER training programs at the beginning of our services. He graduated and passed the state exam for his journeyman certification. For love of the craft, Steve returned to the Trade School as an instructor in 2011. Since then, he has obtained his contractor's license, taught more than four hundred students, and mentored them on their journey.
The Trade School has a long tradition of launching successful careers in our community. Please help us continue this tradition.
