Make a Splash—Restore the Pond!

The beloved centerpiece pond at Whiskeytown Environmental School (WES) was destroyed by the 2018 Carr Fire. The fire caused the pond to lose its permanent water source and reduced it to a seasonal water hole with limited usability.

For over 50 years, the pond played a key role in outdoor education at WES, allowing thousands of students per year to get their hands and feet wet in this living laboratory.

Restoring the pond is critical to the rebuilding efforts at WES, and essential for preserving biodiversity in our region’s freshwater habitats.

When restored, the pond will once again serve as a home for turtles, frogs, salamanders, newts, and fish. A number of these creatures are listed as federal “species of concern,” making the pond restoration project even more urgent.

Our Giving Tuesday goal this year is to raise $25,000 so we can begin Phase I of the pond restoration project. With your help, and the support of other generous individuals, businesses, and foundations, we can ensure that future generations of Shasta County students and teachers can continue to Make a Splash in the Pond!
