Help Build Siskiyou County’s Local Radio Network — Our Voices, Our Stories, Our Safety
Imagine turning on your radio and hearing our musicians, our stories, our updates—real information from the people who actually live here. Picture local event coverage, wildfire recovery updates, student-produced shows, cultural programming, and when emergencies strike, real-time local notifications from trusted community partners.
That future is within reach. But only if we build it—together.
A Rare, Once-in-a-Decade Opportunity
Siskiyou County has been granted 11 Low Power FM licenses, with a 12th on the way. These licenses are incredibly rare; communities wait 10 years or more for a chance like this. Once lost, they don’t come back.
Thanks to a generous $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the North State, the first four stations are officially within reach. But to bring the full countywide network to life—and keep these licenses—we must raise additional funds for transmitters, antennas, emergency-ready technology, and the staff and volunteers who will run them.
We have a little over a year to get these stations on the air. The clock is ticking. After that we lose the license.
Why LPFM Matters for Siskiyou
Siskiyou has lost much of its local media. Regional newspapers closed, reporters disappeared, and reliable, homegrown coverage has almost vanished.
LPFM radio brings it back—stronger than ever.
- Local Empowerment: Your donation restores a source of truth and connection created by Siskiyou, for Siskiyou.
- Emergency Readiness: Fires, storms, road closures—local radio can save lives with hyperlocal alerts and recovery info.
- Cultural Celebration: Every community—from Dorris to Dunsmuir, Forks of Salmon to Mount Shasta—gets a platform.
- Education & Youth Training: Students and emerging journalists gain real broadcasting experience.
- Community Unity: A shared media voice strengthens civic life, volunteerism, and local pride.
This is about more than radio. This is about reclaiming our voice as a county.
