Shasta County 4-H has been around forever, or so it seems. The University of California encouraged forming agricultural youth clubs in rural communities as early as 1912 & in 1928 the title 4-H began to appear in reports of their work.
A University of California Cooperative Extension office opened in Shasta County in 1919, and the 4-H program followed soon after. During the past 100+ years, 4-H has expanded well beyond large animals to include everything from Arts & Crafts to Science Literacy and STEM projects.
Shasta County is home to 17 4-H clubs, with 600+ members and 120+ adult volunteers. Volunteers are required to update their training each year and are relied upon to do everything from leading the club to teaching members how to remove a goat horn.
Youth from McArthur to Cottonwood, ages 5 thru 18, are members of our clubs. We have families with 1 child & families with 5 children enrolled in the program.
The $87 enrollment fee for members provides educational curriculum for the projects, allows the member to attend any 4-H meeting or event throughout California at no additional cost, and provides insurance coverage for the member while engaged in 4-H related activities.
Some of our 4-H families fall outside of the economic guidelines that would make them eligible to receive assistance with the enrollment fee.
The donation you give will help the Shasta County 4-H office cover those fees for the 2025-2026 program year.
Thank you.
