Siskiyou Community Food Bank (SCFB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. It was founded in 2013. We are a well-established food bank and are 100% volunteer. None of us are paid- not any board members, the executive director, or any other volunteer. This means your donation is used where it is needed the most-for the purchase of healthy food!
When you support our food bank, you are helping families, seniors, veterans, the disabled, the homeless, and the unemployed, such as your neighbors and friends! We provide groceries to low-income households and victims of disaster. We provide groceries and ready-to-eat foods to disaster victims.
When funding allows, we provide dog and cat food to the homeless. Additionally, we provide socks, hats, scarves, gloves, sleeping bags, and tents as funding allows.
When you donate, your money is used to purchase healthy foods for us to distribute to the hungry, the poor, and those in need. Please consider donating either a one-time gift, monthly, quarterly, or whatever you feel good about giving. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness.
Our mission is to provide healthy food to low-income households to seniors, veterans, the disabled, the unemployed, underemployed, the homeless, families, individuals, and victims of disasters. We are not a government entity, nor are we sponsored by any government entity. We rely on donations and the grants we write.
In the past few years, we have faced many troublesome times, high unemployment rates, fewer jobs offering a living wage, a drought for over five years, the COVID-19 pandemic, and numerous wildfires throughout Siskiyou County. These have all had huge negative impacts on our families, friends, neighbors, and more. Those needing our help dramatically increased. We used to serve about 20 per day when open. In 2024, that number has jumped as we serve between 55 to 85 households per day.
We are in a vicious cycle: not enough jobs, not enough housing, increased costs for food, shelter, clothing, gasoline, and even toilet paper. How can a family or an individual make ends meet? The answer is, they can't. They need our help!
To ensure our ability to continue to help those in need, we need your help. Please donate to us so we can feed the hungry.
Thank you for your human kindness.
What does a low-income household receive from us?
For homeless individuals and those living in motels: 65 pounds of ready-to-eat and/or microwaveable foods, and they can receive food every two weeks.
Those with in-house cooking and refrigeration capabilities receive food once per month as follows:
Household size Pounds of food per month (All amounts are approximate)
1-4 65
5 75
6 85
7+ 95 lbs. approx.
Food includes but not limited to peanut butter, breakfast cereal (cold or hot), soups, rice, pinto beans, canned tuna and chicken, pasta sauce, pasta, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, canned fruits, hamburger helper type boxes, saltine crackers, refried beans, kidney beans, black beans, navy beans, chili, pork and beans, beef stew, protein /granola bars, and other snacks when available, bread, dairy (eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt), meats, other frozen foods (pizza, sausage-breakfast bowls, hot pockets, burritos, etc.), and more.
Emergency food bags are available to those who have a personal emergency, a natural disaster, or those over our income limit but have an immediate need.
No one should have to go to bed hungry. You can't get a restful night's sleep when you are starving. Children who don't eat regularly do worse in school when compared to those who eat regularly. Seniors and others need nutritious meals regularly. We live in the United States, yet 1 in 8 households (12.8%) experience food insecurity, which means they lack access to an affordable and nutritious diet. This translates to an estimated 44.2 million Americans living in these households. The rate in Siskiyou County is 13.7%! This must STOP, and you can help! Your support makes a big difference in the lives of many.
Additionally, Siskiyou Community Food Bank is also a One Warm Coat partner. We collect new or gently used coats for adults and children. We can provide coats and jackets to those in need.
