They're not wrong - it takes a village is an understatement! And the Choices village includes volunteer compassioneers, givers of funds both small and large, organizers of the physical space, ordering of diapers and wipes, gathering of gently-used baby/toddler/preschool clothing/jackets/shoes/boots/toys and such, and the gathering of groceries to share with families.
For over thirty years, Choices has been present to care deeply for those who come, sometimes saying a version of:
"Can you help? I need to get to work, and I'm out of diapers."...
"Sometimes I don't know whether I should pay the power bill or buy formula"...
"My toddler refuses to listen, what should I do?"...
Our spaces are designed to invite a sense of dignity and respect, cozy and safe, warmth and care. It matters how people are cared for - listening, loving, resourcing, and nurturing lives is our jam. And you're invited to come alongside us in support - whatever your heart can share is a gift to those needing vital encouragement and resources to navigate life.
Recently as we needed to relocate our Mt. Shasta location (after 25 years), we heard repeated accounts from our guests that they realized how much our care mattered to them:
"When you were closed, I missed you all so much. You have been my life anchor since the surprise of my pregnancy. You helped me learn what to expect along the way, you celebrated when my baby boy was born, and you always have chocolate!"
"Sitting around the table for lunch has meant so much to us...we came in desperate for diapers, and you invited us to join you for soup and bread. It felt like family - and we needed that."
To be sure, Choices is a special place for folks needing kindness, love, and resources. We are grateful for each and every gift to be shared with those seeking help and hope.
